Chapter 27 — Atlanta is Ours

Kuy Syan Joshua looked at his brother, knowing he had felt the exact same way the first time he'd heard that. Standing up, he faced Two Hawks.

"I'm ready." He held out his snare.

"All right. Do you want me to go with you?" Two Hawks asked.

"No. I remember how to do this."

"I have one question for you before you go."

"What?"

"Is one snare enough?"

Kuy Syan Joshua looked at the trap in his hands and then back to his father. "Yes. I think so."

"So, if you catch a rabbit and your cousin doesn't, you'd eat in front of him, knowing he's hungry?"

"Of course not," Kuy Syan Joshua frowned at the thought.

"So, I'll ask again. Is one snare enough?"

Kuy Syan Joshua's shoulders slumped. "Are we all going to have to make more snares?"

"What they do doesn't matter. You are the oldest. You have the most responsibility to care for the younger ones."

"Oh. All right." The ten-year-old nodded at the explanation and began looking for more material. Black Rabbit, the oldest in his family, took the lesson to heart as well, and also began constructing another snare.
